During 2020, St John's received a grant of $1000 as part of our School Environmental Management Plan (SEMP). We decided to create an outdoor classroom inline with our SEMP goal of 'connecting environmental and sustainability themed learning and teaching with an outdoor learning space'.

The space was created using old seating that was due to go to the metal recycler. Our Year 11 and Year 12 construction students worked alongside the JAG team to clear and weed the area, and repair the metal seats. Last term at the school working bee, parents, students and teachers worked together to spread mulch through the area then the seats were concreted in to complete the outdoor classroom. 

The vision for the space is that it can be used for many different teaching and learning activities such as prayer, meditation, geography fieldwork, bushcraft, PD/H/PE and many more. We have already had classes using the space for religion and geography to which students have reported enjoying learning in nature, outside the typical indoor classroom!
