PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Hogan_Sandra2_Copy_.jpg

These last three weeks have been different and challenging however it has been very impressive how our school community has embraced the challenge of remote learning and supported each other. While we have engaged in a new way of communicating and education involving numerous zooms, check ins and independent working.  It is not easy but your focus on gratitude has been very evident. Your resilience has enabled you to learn new ways of learning and build your skills.

Your willingness to engage and connect at every opportunity has been refreshing. Your teachers talk about how nice it has been to see your big smiles each time they meet you. It refreshes their soul to know how much you want to learn and engage.

On Thursday night and Friday students had the opportunity to meet their teachers with their parents and carers and discuss their progress. We did this by ZOOM this time and whilst it is not the same as seeing each other in person, it does have the benefit of being able to join from anywhere and have very focussed conversations. It was wonderful to see so many families engage with this important connection.

A well deserved rest has arrived so we hope that you enjoy the break. We live in the Shoalhaven, such an amazing place, so go out ‘On country’ and renew your spirit.

    THANKS TO PARENTS AND CARERS
We are very mindful that the switch to remote learning has posed many challenges for parents. We are very aware that it is often difficult to inspire and encourage your children to be motivated to engage with their remote learning. We wish to acknowledge what wonderful support you have given your children to achieve this. Whilst we hope that we will return early next term, there is a dedicated desk space set up for learning a good chance that this mode of learning may continue for a little while. The teachers are passionate about offering support and ideas to assist you. When they call please take the opportunity to discuss with them what may help your child to remain motivated or what adjustments may be needed in the future to meet their learning needs. Some ideas to assist:

    • an adherence to school timetable
    • using the breaks to get outside and refresh, including physical activity
    • If the work is too much; a discussion with the teacher about reducing the requirement
    • If there is too little work or it is not challenging enough; a discussion with the teacher about increasing the amount or level of challenge
    • some time each day celebrating their achievements in their learning.
    • limiting screen time after time spent in front of computers for learning.
    • They are engaging with prayer in PALS each morning however some time dedicated to their personal spirituality may refresh their spirit

What is important now however, is ensuring that students enjoy the holiday break with some dedicated time given to healthy pursuits and creativity.
