It was with great pleasure that I was team captain for the SJE 2019 Relay For Life team for this inspiring community event. Our 35 participants were wonderful ambassadors for our school and got into the spirit of the Relay, even though the weather at times was against us, with the cold and strong winds. A particular mention to parents of Jade Hall, Lorna and Steve Hall, who helped keep our tent safe by holding onto the beam of the shelter whenever a gust of wind hit, enabling the rest of us to walk and build up our lap tally (and keep warm). The team walked and ran over 1300 laps, approximately 5500km. A special mention to Jessica Kelly who individually, in only a few hours, had run and walked 130 laps; Paige Clarke who completed 100 laps and to Lucian D’Hudson, who ran many laps but didn’t record on the tally sheet. Twelve of our senior students braved the cold conditions staying overnight and participated in Relay activities such as midnight onesie run, the 1:00am trivia, the 2:00am scavenger hunt and a couple even participated in the 3:00am yoga session.

Many thanks to all the SJE staff and parents who came along during the day and evening to support the team and the Relay.
