St John’s switched on Google Classroom Guardian Summaries on Friday 21 February to promote student learning engagement.
Guardian Summaries are a summary of the activity happening in a student’s Google Classrooms. Guardians will know about the classwork and assignments their children are doing in every subject. Parents/guardians can choose whether or not to receive these emails. They can choose to receive Guardian Summaries once a day or once a week. If once a week is chosen, then the Guardian Summary email typically arrives on Saturday afternoon.
What’s included?
The Guardian Summary email contains a summary of the work posted by their children’s teachers during the past day/week. The Guardian Summary will include missing work - homework and assignments that were due but have not been uploaded to Google Classroom by the student during the past day/week. The Guardian Summary email will also include work that is due today and tomorrow (for daily summaries) or the coming week (for weekly summaries). Parents/guardians will also be able to see announcements, assignments and questions recently posted by their children’s teachers. Guardian Summaries are not a direct view of their children’s Google Classrooms. Parents/guardians will not be able to view grades and will not be able to view class discussions as they would appear in the Stream page of their children’s Google Classrooms.
An invitation to view Guardian Summaries has now been sent via email to parent/carers.

At the beginning of each school year we are required to collect a media consent form from every student, signed by parents/carers and students. These forms are required to enable students to be photographed for a number of events including;
- Group School Photographs
- Annual School Yearbook
- St John's website
- Catholic Diocese of Wollongong Website
- Livstream of assemblies and events
All students are required to return this form to their PALS teacher as soon as possible. This form was due in Week 4.
