STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Staff development at St John’s is aligned with the School Improvement Plan that is informed by data and feedback. We collect a wide range of data from results, external testing and ongoing data from our student management system. Feedback is also sought from students, parents and staff.

This term began with a staff development day focussed on three key areas:

  • Discipline specific literacy
  • Student voice in teacher development
  • Behaviour management

The workshops are developed and led by staff with expertise in these areas. We acknowledge the school community for your support on these days and ensure you that staff work diligently with a continual focus on improving student outcomes.

I encourage all parents and carers to undertake the ‘Tell Them From Me Survey’, which will be made available to complete next week, as your feedback is important to us.

ANZAC MEMORIAL

On Thursday 28 April we honoured ANZAC day as a school community. Captain Gavin Fairs gave the address and reminded us of the conflicts that have been fought to ensure peace. Fr Joseph then talked about the universal and fundamental law of love. The focus of the student presentation was the role of peacekeepers. This is also the calling that is central to our school community. Here at school we honour it and are constantly working towards peaceful relationships.

It was so wonderful to see so many of our students attend the ANZAC day marches and represent our school, showing the community how much we value the sacrifice of others and the importance of a peace focussed world.

YEAR 9 CAMP

This week saw Year 9 attend camp. As one teacher described to me “they have a great vibe”.

The camp offers our young people a chance to take on challenges and build resilience, to immerse themselves in the amazing environment that we are gifted with in the Shoalhaven and to share some fun times together.

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS

Open_Night_P_F_Canteen.jpg

I would like to make a person call for volunteers for our school canteen. It provides an invaluable service however the limited number of volunteers is making it difficult to meet the needs. We may need to close the canteen for one recess break. If you are able to assist on any day for any amount of time would you please contact the school by phone (4423 1666) or email (info@sjedow.catholic.edu.au) with details of when you are available. Grandparents are also very welcome along with a ‘bring a friend’ approach.
