White Ribbon – ‘Breaking the Silence’ children and youth visual arts Competition
Australian research has found that one in four children are exposed to domestic violence. This exposure to domestic violence, has a clear and negative impact on children and young people’s behaviour, mental health, and social development.
The Nowra Domestic Violence - White Ribbon Working Party Committee and the Shoalhaven City Council are excited to announce a visual arts competition for children and youth in the Shoalhaven region to raise the awareness and importance of respectful relationships and promoting gender equality. The competition encourages children and youth to express their desire for positive change through visual story-telling, for example using a video, poster, storyboard, photograph or animation.
The competition will close on Friday 27 September 2019. The winners will be announced at the Shoalhaven City Council White Ribbon Morning Tea on Friday 22 November 2019.
There are four competition categories:
- Children (K – Year 2)
- Children (Year 3 – Year 6)
- Youth (12 – 15 years)
- Youth (16 – 24 years).
For each category there are three prizes (terms and conditions apply):
- First prize - $150
- Second prize - $125
- Third prize - $75.
The committee will judge the artwork submissions based on the following criteria commensurate with the age of the entrant:
- Interpretation of the theme (respectful relationships and gender equality)
- Technical skill
- Originality
