JONNIES ACTION GROUP (JAG) NEWS

JAG has been concentrating on endangered and threatened animals this week, and how we can assist them. The Australia State of the Environment Report, a five-yearly environmental report card released by the government on July 19, 22, has informed us of the terrible impact of the last five years on the current environment.

JAG.jpgThis taught us that the environment in Australia is in terrible shape and has gotten worse. We witnessed one of the highest rates of species decline among developed nations, losing more mammal species than any other nation. The number of species added to the list of threatened species or in a higher category of risk grew by an average of 8% from the previous report in 2016, with 533 animal species and 1,385 plant species now listed. The bushfires have killed or forced 1 billion to 3 billion animals, which also burned 9% of koala habitat.

To help this issue, we can implement many ideas such as using the bins at school correctly or joining the endangered/threatened species committee. Any interested students are invited to join the JAG google classroom (4qfg7ep), speak to Ms Freshwater or come along to a JAG meeting on Week A Friday’s in K 3/4.
