YEAR 10 NEWS

What an exciting few weeks it has been for the students of Year 10. They have engaged in a number of different and engaging activities and it has been such a delight to watch them engage in these experiences.

Year 10 do have a number of assessments that are due at this time in the term. I remind them of the requirements of ROSA and ensure that they organise and plan their time accordingly to ensure that they get their tasks in on time. If there are any issues they can speak to their teacher, PALS teacher or the curriculum office.

A reminder to all students to use the upcoming holiday period to book in your options for work experience. Students will be undertaking work experience in Week 9 of Term 4 and it is vital that they lock in their chosen profession as soon as possible. Again if they have any questions please see Mrs Hill or their PALS teacher.

CHOICEZ

Year 10 were lucky enough to participate inthe Your Choicez seminar on positive and respectful relationships. Students engaged with the presenters and all took something away from the day.

SOCIAL JUSTICE CONFERENCE

The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference Social Justice Statement for 2022-23 was launched on Social Justice Sunday 28 August. These yearly statements are the Church’s response to the signs of our times in terms of social justice issues. Past statements have explored the Catholic response to current issues including - mental illness, the environment, the digital age and the disconnect in our connectivity. The theme for this year’s statement is 'RESPECT: Confronting Violence and Abuse'.

On Monday 5 September a group of secondary student representatives from CEDoW schools will came together for a workshop on this topic. I had the pleasure of taking Jett Richardson, Joshua Stephanidis, Ruby Marshall and Abbie Ewens to join in with Year 10 students from across the Diocese.

The day had the following format:

Session I. SEEING - deep listening (Includes a Keynote Speaker - Stacey Jane Founder and

CEO of ESCABAGS - an outreach charity for women and men escaping domestic violence)

Session II. JUDGING - discerning the message and response with a mission lens

Session III. ACTING - moving/acting to address need.

Students got so much out of the day and it was a pleasure to see the mature way in which they approached these difficult issues.
