YEAR 7 & 8 SUPER DIOCESAN CRICKET GALA DAY
On Wednesday 19 October the Year 7 & 8 Boys Cricket Team competed in the Super 8 (8 a side) Diocesan Cricket Gala Day at Dalton Park in Wollongong.
Our team used a rotation system which allowed each player to bat, bowl and field in each game. The draw for the day for St John's involved playing four straight games.
There were some strong performances with the bat and ball in the initial game against Magdalene College and in our third game against St Benedicts with both games going down to the last over. In our second game against Edmund Rice and in our final game against St Joseph’s Albion Park we met much stronger and more disciplined opposition.
Although we did not win a game, our underlying team strengths came from the encouragement each team member gave each other and the new friendships that were forged on the day.
It was heartening to hear from four members of our team who never played cricket competitively before, that they were now keen to join a local club team.
Thanks must also go to Mr Garner who drove the team bus on the day and also assisted with scoring and umpiring.
