YEAR 9 NEWS
NAPLAN
Year 9 have finished their NAPLAN exams for 2019 with Mathematics our final exam on Tuesday 21 May. The exams have run very smoothly and I wish to congratulate the year group in the way they have diligently worked towards doing their best to complete this national exam online for the first time. The students had their computers and other equipment ready to go with little fuss or reminders. Special thanks to our IT department and curriculum office staff who helped prepare the students which effectively allowed this new way of doing NAPLAN to run as efficiently as it did.
Choicez Presentation
On Wednesday 22 May Year 9 and 10 were engaged in the ‘YOUR CHOICEZ’ presentation by David and Katie Kobler. We have been running the ‘YOUR CHOICEZ’ programme with our stage 5 learners for several years now as we feel it is a very valuable programme. Parents were invited to attend a workshop session where these very experienced guest speakers talked to our parents about a variety of issues facing our youth today as they grow and begin needing to make young adult choices.
Diary Usage
Please keep a close eye on your child’s dairy and remember to sign it every week as this is a very valuable tool for teachers, students and parents to communicate and plan good learning and homework skills.
Extra Curricular Update
The photos below showcase some of the activities Year 9 have been involved in over the past few months. The science students have been doing experiments investigating and modelling volcanoes in their science classes while the PDHPE classes continue to get to enjoy the outdoors fine tuning their physical skills and sportsmanship on the back oval. In April the 3 bushcraft classes went bush to hone their newly found bush skills in the beautiful environs of the Shoalhaven bush. We have also had great success and team building with our girls soccer this term at the Diocesan soccer gala day. It’s always full ball here at St John’s with such a diverse range of learning activities on offer for our students no matter where their skills lie.
