Last week, students from Year 12 and Year 10 were inspired by over 100 exhibitors at the 2023 Illawarra Careers Expo. Industry career experts from TAFE, Universities, Defence, Local Businesses, and Training Organisations were on hand to give students guidance on career direction. There are so many incredible opportunities and bright pathways ahead of you! Thank you for engaging so positively over the day SJE!

YEAR 11 UOW FUTURE ME PROGRAM


UOW facilitated a morning program for students to build confidence and understanding about post-school options and 21st-century employability skills. The range of activities allowed individuals to openly explore their strengths and potential pathways including; university, TAFE, apprenticeship, traineeship/cadetship, work, or a gap year. Scholarships and financial assistance were also discussed in great detail. Great questions were raised over the session, and futures are looking bright!



UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY COLLEGE OF THE ARTS - CREATIVE ARTS SPECIAL ADMISSION SCHEME
Did you know you can apply to get an early offer from Sydney College of the Arts before you get your ATAR? If you’ve got the talent and the dedication, we want you. The Creative Arts Special Admission Scheme offers talented Year 12 students a chance to receive an early offer to study visual arts based on their portfolio and academic performance in year 11 and 12 so far, prior to getting an ATAR. You must be a domestic student, currently undertaking a recognised Year 12 qualification to apply. All offers will require you to complete your high school qualification. The scheme does not apply to non-recent school leavers.
MY SYDNEY ENTRY AND SCHLOARSHIP SCHEME

UTS UP TO 5 ADJUSTMENT POINT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE
You may be eligible for up to five adjustment points if your work experience relates to the course you are applying for. Complete the employment question in your UAC application so your work experience can be considered for specific courses in: • Engineering and IT • Business • Science
TAFE
TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses help students build practical skills and industry-specific knowledge, and count toward school outcomes, with some courses contributing towards an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

Work Placement Program at The Powerhouse Museum and Sydney Observatory
Applications for Winter Holidays close 21 May Applications for Spring Holidays open 1 August. Our Secondary Student Placement Program provides a snapshot into the world of museums and cultural institutions. It gives high-school students a taste of an industry that they might one day be part of. This program can be used as part of a secondary student’s work experience requirement in Year 10, 11 and 12. The program gives insight into the operational aspects of a cultural institution, including museum practices, entertainment, education programs and visitor services. Here you will support the delivery of public programs at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory and the Museums Discovery Centre, working alongside staff and volunteers.
