NETBALL UMPIRES - PRIMARY SCHOOL DIOCESE GALA DAY
Thank you to the following students for your assistance at the recent primary school netball dio gala day in Berkeley.
The umpires all represented the school brilliantly and the CEO received positive feedback from the primary schools, parent spectators and students commending them on their patience, netball knowledge and willingness to help the primary students develop their netball skills and understanding of the game.
OPEN HOCKEY
The open boys and girls hockey teams competed in the Diocesan Championships on Monday 19 June, braving the icy winter morning in Narellan.
OPEN GIRLS
The open girls team played with great spirit, teamwork and enthusiasm, coming away with a mix of wins, draws and losses on the day. A great day was had by all, and many of our students put themselves out there to try something new which is pleasing to see.
OPEN BOYS
The open boys team were feeling confident as they stepped onto the frozen Narellan turf. In a game against Holy Spirit captain Samuel Phillips linked up with hockey veteran Matthew Page to release Adam Staunton down the right side of the field for a great goal and a 1-0 victory. Eager to go the boys turned up for their second game and were pressured hard by St Josephs who had the better of the play, but they didn’t account for Riley Mason’s exquisite stick skills slotting home the winner the game again finishing 1-0. St Benedicts were next and unfairly actually had a lot of their team made up of actual hockey players; some great keeping by Noah Sheehan kept the score respectable Johnnies going down 4-0.
Despite the last game the boys were feeling confident and apparently generous. Corpus hadn’t scored a goal yet so Arabici Talty decided to put one in for the opposition and another goal was scored from a deflected Johnnies stick 0-2. Many would see this as a loss but not this team adding 2 new goal scorers to the ever growing list. Due to goal difference we missed the semis and played off for 7th against Mt Carmel easily accounting for them 3-1 with Tom Brookes taking credit for at least 2 of these goals. Many thanks to Matthew Page, Thomas Brookes and Alexander Evans for umpiring on the day. All in all it must be said that hockey was the real winner on the day.
