The year 12 house captains shared their Athletics carnival experience and their favourite part of the day below:
BENEDICT
Many setbacks throughout this year for the Athletics carnival have fueled all competitors with house spirit, determination and a common goal – for the Bulls to win! The day had beautiful weather with strong winds of Benedictian glory! It was a great day to take a breather from normal school life and with great participation throughout the day across both the track and field events Benedict made sure that their name was known throughout the carnival. The day ended with Benedict winning the Intermediate Relay and great efforts in both the Junior and Senior Relays.
Robert Mclean and Elizabeth Coulthart (Benedict House Captains)
CHISHOLM
The 2023 SJE athletics carnival was filled with wonders as the mighty Chisholm team poured blood, sweat and tears into every event. It was amazing to be able to enjoy our friends' company without schoolwork, and it was even better to see so many people from Chisholm participating. The day ended far too soon, with Chisholm WINNING the junior relay and placing SECOND in the intermediate & senior, well done team! A big thanks to all who contributed to the day, you definitely made it Chisholm’s best athletics carnival.
Arabici Talty and Caitlin Fairs (Chisholm House Captains)
MACKILLOP
On the 20th of June, the school participated in the 2023 Mackillop School athletics carnival. It was an outstanding event that demonstrated the athletes' talent, dedication, and unity. The unbroken house spirit made the day a remarkable celebration of the skills present at St John's, despite the chilly start to the day. The participation of Mackillop exceeded the rest, as purple was prominent in every race and field event, securing numerous victories in a variety of events. We would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this the best athletics carnival yet.
Dylan Johnstone and Matilda Sinclair (Mackillop House Captains)
McCABE
After 2 cancelled dates for the athletics carnival, the sun finally came out on the 20th of June to make for a great day for our 2023 athletics carnival.
McCabe’s usual display of athleticism shone through during the senior relay where Ruby, Kate, Denzel and Oscar took out the competition - including 2 teachers teams. Not only were our seniors at their best - it was encouraging to see so many McCabe juniors getting involved and trying their best. The track events were buzzing with blue, with many of our Year 7’s and 8’s dominating. MVPs of the day include Maluane Poleka, Jake Swan, Ruby Marshall, Bridget Fairs, Julian Gentile and Kate Drinkwalter. Thank you McCabe for another great carnival and giving it all you got.
Blake Gasnier and Grace Hartigan (McCabe House Captains)
POLDING
Robbie roared the Polding chant as we marched over to Shoalhaven High School in high spirits. Polding powered out the BBQ with the most volunteers out of all of the house groups, cooking up a storm of bacon and egg rolls and sausage sandwiches. The sun was shining and the conditions were optimal for Polding’s extraordinary participation in both the track and field events across all year groups. Year 12 Polding went out with a bang in their final carnival, special mention to: Byron blitzing the 200m sprint, Raphie reigning supreme in the long jump, Bela’s brilliant shot putting, Chloe carving up the running track, Liam who leapt over the finish line, Adam’s angelic high jump performance, Lachlan’s lightening relay and Imogen who faltered in an intense sprint competition against Mrs Berryman. The athleticism of the junior Polding was strong as always, seeing Polding dominate in the relays and finish in a strong position at the end of the day. A big thank you to everybody who dressed up, got involved in the events, and showed some house spirit. GO POLDING

PURCELL
This last athletics carnival was definitely one to remember. The day was amazing, seeing the younger years and older groups join in on events and making it a great experience for everyone. With competitiveness in the air, and a bit of house rivalry it built up to a great day. A favourite part of the day would have to be seeing Purcell dressed up and ready to win, while some were dressed in house colours and others tried to have the best costume of the day. Besides some friendly competition between the other house captains, the day just kept on getting better with the canteen selling milo cups and egg and bacon rolls. Purcell exceeded expectations with being amazing in all the events and giving everything a go. Special thanks to Ryan for helping put the relay teams together and everyone who ran in the relay’s and participated in both track and field events. Purcell did great! Thanks for a great carnival, GO PURCELL!!!
