YEAR 11 NEWS

Daley_Sophie.jpg

What an exciting and busy start it has been as Year 11 begin their last term in preliminary studies. It has been so pleasing to see this Year the positive attitudes that all students in the Year group have had this year towards their studies and presence in the school community. All of Year 11 need to be congratulated on this.

Students will be moving into exams at the end of week 8 and more information will come to students in the next fortnight that will help them prepare for these exam and also explain the process to families for this week of exams.

Some really exciting things have been happening for Year 11 both in and out of the classroom

YEAR 11 MODERN HISTORY

Both classes have taken part in some hands on activities including mapping the Stalemate on the Western Front in WW1 using lollies and participating in a simulation of the political start of WW1

YEAR 11 LEADERSHIP DAY

On Thursday Year 11 participated in Year 11 Leadership Day. What an engaging and exciting day it was for Year 11 as they move into the last Year of their time at St John’s and begin the process of choosing leaders for 2024. Students have been asked to nominate for leadership and if they need a form for this can see their PALS teacher or myself. Forms are due on Friday the 18th of August and can be handed into Mrs Daley or their PALS teacher. A leadership forum will take place on Thursday the 24th of August and students are encouraged to ensure that their passports have been updated by this date. If there are any questions regarding this process please do not hesitate to contact me.

YEAR 11 PDHPE HIKE

Last Thursday 3 & Friday 4 August our year 11 PDHPE students went on an overnight camp and walk to meet the requirements of the Outdoor Education unit. The hike included a walk from East Lynne to Kiola and overnight camp at Pebbly Beach. Students also participated in group challenges and team building activities. The students are to be praised on their behaviour, cooperation and positive engagement throughout the hike. They were blessed with amazing weather and had a truly sublime experience.

RETREAT

Finally students are beginning preparation for their Year 12 retreat which will take place in Term 4 from the 18th to the 20th of October at a new location this year 'TOPS' in Stanwell Tops. Information should be available in relation to this on Compass. A reminder that this is a compulsory school event and all students are expected to attend. Again if there are any concerns around this please contact myself or the students PALS teacher.
