    SCHOOL UNIFORM

Over the next fortnight, the school Positive Behaviour for Learning team is focussing on highlighting the importance of wearing our school uniform correctly. Often when addressing students about uniform concerns, the first question that they ask me is “why do we have to wear a school uniform?”.  Wearing the school uniform correctly, teaches the students to meet expectations, have pride in their school and demonstrates that they want to be a part of our school community. Just like wearing your Melbourne Storm jersey on the weekend it is important to show that you are proud of your school/ team!

Reasons why school uniforms are important:

    • Similar to a weekend sports uniform, students who wear the school uniform feel that they belong to a particular organisation and are connected to their community. It gives them pride and a sense of belonging
    • Students are easily recognisable in the community
    • Dressing smartly will help students to become more confident.

Points parents can use when discussing uniform with their child:

Focus on Learning: When students are wearing their uniform, they are able to concentrate on their education rather than the latest fashion trends and who is wearing what. It also removes the pressure of deciding what to wear each day!

Unity and connection: Students from different families and economic conditions come to the school. Rather than highlighting the differences between families, wearing the same SJE badge forms connections and unites a student population. It shows the students we are one big supportive extended family and are equal and deserving of a quality education.

Respect: Students who wear the school uniform correctly show respect for themselves, their peers and our school community. It shows that the students feel they belong and want to be a part of our SJE community.

The school community is looking forward to our students showing the true spirit of St John’s by wearing the uniform and demonstrating positive behaviours for learning.
