YEAR 7 NEWS

Baker_Abbey.jpg

Dear parents and guardians of Year 7 students, my name is Mrs Abbey Simis (previously known as Miss Baker) and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the acting Year 7 Coordinator. It is with great enthusiasm that I embark on this journey to work alongside you and the students until Mrs Kate Jennings returns from maternity leave in 2024. My primary goal is to create a nurturing and inspiring environment where each student can flourish and achieve their full potential.

Year 7 students have well and truly crossed the halfway point of their first year in high school and it is an opportune time to reflect on the challenges they’ve overcome, the progress they’ve made and the exciting opportunities that await them.

In the short time I have been the coordinator of Year 7, I have been impressed with the large number of students who are actively involved in social justice groups, sporting teams, faith based initiatives and extracurricular activities. In recent weeks in particular, there has been…

  • The Under 13’s Boy Rugby League Team - travelling to Sydney on Thursday the 17th of August to play in the finals and were crowned the NSW Country Champions! They also placed second overall in the entire state! Well done boys!
  • Taj Thomas who was awarded the 12 Years Age Champion at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival!
  • The Girls 7/8 Netball Team and the Boys 7/8 Netball Team who represented the school with pride at recent carnival days
  • The Junior AFL side - who came away with many wins at the recent gala day
  • Students who attended the recent Youth Mass at St Michael’s
  • Many Yr 7 students who are donating items to the Vinnies Winter Appeal.
  • And the Yr 7 Rock Band who I hear is performing in front of the school very soon!
  • Tiarn Schell who competed at the Interschools Equestrian Event with some outstanding results.

TIARN SCHELL - INTERSCHOOL EQUESTRIAN EVENT

Tiarn Schell of Year 7 competed at Oxley College in the Equestrian Interschools Event on Sunday, 20 August 2023. There were 20 competitors in her class with many talented riders. Tiarn and her pony, Woodstock Eclair achieved terrific results including:
1st Place for Senior Showjumping Year 7-8, 60cm
3rd Place for Senior Hacking Year 7-8, Educated Mount
3rd Place for Senior Hacking Year 7-8, Rider
4th Place for Senior Hacking Year 7-8, Pleasure Mount
Congratulations Tiarn and Woodstock Eclair! ?

There are many opportunities for Year 7 to ‘let their light shine’ and I encourage all students to explore the opportunities presented to them here at school. Speaking of our year group motto, students are continuing to nominate a peer who they think has been ‘letting their light shine’. A weekly winner is drawn at our Year Group Assemblies and is presented with a badge. In recent weeks, winners have been Georgia Mouawad, Chiara Gruosso, Rya Lucas and Ella Hubbard.
