During the start of Term 4, St John's has been involved in various Debating competitions. On Monday 23 October we hosted the Stage 4 round with visiting teams from Corpus Christi High School, Edmund Rice College, Holy Spirit, St Mary's College and St Joseph's.
Then on 26 October our Year 9, 10 and 11 debating teams travelled to various school's to compete, with Year 9 going to Edmund Rice College, Year 10 Holy Spirit and Year 11 St Mary's College.
Topics our students debated included, 'That the barbie image does more harm than good', 'Halloween and trick or treating should be banned in Australia' and 'That the use of technology is making people dumber rather than smarter'.
Well done to the Year 7 and 10 teams having successful wins. All students are to be congratulated for their effort and are becoming very accomplished in the art of Debating.

YEAR 10 CHILD STUDIES
In the latest task in Year 10 Child Studies students created an online story which they printed off and are now able to gift these to some special little people that they dedicated these books too. Congratulations Year 10 they are terrific.

ABORIGINAL STUDIES
On Thursday 9 November the school welcomed Jo-Ann, a professional chef and owner of Goanna Hut. At assembly she presented two of our Year 12 Aboriginal Studies students, Emma and Nakita certificates for assisting to feed 3000 people at Hyde Park in July as part of a NAIDOC Event.
Jo-Ann then spoke to our Aboriginal Studies class about Bush Tucker, Aboriginal businesses, culture and her life experiences. She also cooked Crocodile San Choy Boi for the class, which was delicious. A huge thankyou to Jo-Ann for generously sharing her time and knowledge with us.
