NEWS FROM CAPA

Burian_Mark.jpg

Term 4 in the CAPA Faculty has been an extremely busy one with showcase assemblies, Junior Creative Arts evenings and of course our EAT Theatre production. I would like to thank all of the CAPA staff for all of the incredible hard work they have put in to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to shine. The set up for music with the instruments, sound system, rehearsals and sound checks requires an enormous effort by our wonderful Music staff Mr Christie, Ms Simis and Mr Malady. The Visual Arts exhibition on the junior Creative Arts evening required almost 400 individual pieces to be moved to the hall and then displayed. A huge effort by our amazing Visual Arts staff Ms Smiriglia, Ms Lambert, Ms Hayes and Ms Shirlaw. Finally thank you to all of the students who not only helped in the set for the assembly and evening but performed so magnificently as well. Thanks to all of our student creative artists for your dedication, hard work, persistence and courage to express yourself and simply be authentically you. You make all of our CAPA staff immensely proud of what you have achieved this year, thank you.

EAT Theatre 2023 Production 3 O’CLOCK FLAGPOLE

This year’s production of 3 O’clock Flagpole was an outstanding production. It explored the impact of bullying in schools and how we can unite and overcome the scourge that is bullying. It was a play that was both humorous and at times, challenging in its content. The lives and stories of each of the characters were played beautifully on stage by the year ten and eleven drama students. In fact, the entire production was created by the Year 10 Drama class with students designing set, costumes and props as well as playing a number of roles and Year 11 students operating sound and lighting for each of the performances. Year 9 students with the incredible assistance of Ms Rachael McKay ran the backstage and scene changes. Ms McKay was in fact the production manager and did an amazing job organising publicity, programs, backstage and a hundred other jobs. A big thank you to Ms Rachael McKay and thanks to all of the staff who helped out on each of the 3 performance evenings. Huge congratulations to the Year Eleven and Ten (EAT) students whose standard of performance was simply extraordinary and a wonderful way to finish the year.

VISUAL ARTS

Year 7 and 8: Clay Masks and Fish Creations

The journey begins for our Year 7 and 8 students who have been engrossed in the tactile world of clay. With their hands as their primary tools, these budding artists have crafted intricate clay masks and fish sculptures.

Year 9: Printmaking and Digital Art

Students embark on a journey into the realm of printmaking and digital art. Simultaneously, they delve into the digital landscape, learning to express their artistic visions through software tools.

Year 10: Clay Creations Take Center Stage

In Year 10, students revisit the world of clay, expanding upon their earlier experiences. This term, they have delved deeper into the medium, creating intricate and personalised clay artworks. The focusing on the natural world.

Year 11: The Journey to Year 12 HSC Body of Work

As students progress into Year 12, the spotlight is on refining their skills and developing a cohesive artistic identity. The groundwork laid in previous years culminates in the preparation for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) body of work. This pivotal year involves extensive exploration of themes, mediums, and techniques, setting the stage for the culminating exhibition in 2024.

The art education journey at our school is a progressive and enriching experience that empowers students to explore, create, and express themselves. From the early stages of clay exploration to the culmination of the HSC body of work, each year level contributes to the holistic development of our young artists, nurturing a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
