NAIDOC PERFORMANCE - NOWRA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
On Friday 16th August the Gooroon Dancers performed at Nowra Christian Schools NAIDOC Assembly. We have a long standing friendship with them that started back when they celebrated their first flag raising ceremony many years ago, and our Garindja Dancers performed. The Assembly finished with everyone joining in singing Taba naba, one of our Girls Dances. They were very appreciative of our performance and engagement with them and their hospitality crew put on a great feed which included Indigenous ingredients.
ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER YEAR 12 STUDENTS MASS AND AWARDS PRESENTATION 2024
On Tuesday 27 August we were honoured to be a part of the inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mass and awards presentation for students across the Diocese. It was truly a beautiful and touching Mass. Bishop Brian spoke in a most genuine way to our students in his homily and led Mass with words and song in dharawal. We were extremely proud to have St John's students, Sophie and Braydon be a part of the Offertory. Our Year 11 choir sang beautifully in durga alongside Aunty Chris
following Mass.
Thank you Nick for driving the bus. And thank you Gooroon for being part of our students' education journey over the last six years.
The occasion I feel marked a really significant day in recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander students, their families, communities and alongside AEAs and Aboriginal staff in our Diocese.
