YEAR 9 CRITICAL THINKING SHORT COURSE COMMUNITY PROJECT

Ms Blades group of critical thinkers applied their thinking towards an issue within our community, this included researching, contacting the community and proposing a way to take action.

Did you know:

  • Illegal Fishing can be reported and has allowed for marine life, such as pipis to be returned to the basin.
  • Indian Myna birds are an introduced species which threaten our native species
  • While legislation has targeted single use plastics, this waste remains an issue for our marine life.
  • Shoalhaven Council has 3 sub-committees focused on coastal management.
  • The cost of affordable venues is a barrier for the arts and performances in the South Coast
  • Domestic Violence and Homelessness are two areas in the Shoalhaven which are under resourced. LGBTI community members have an increased risk of homelessness. Organisations such as SAHSSI are here to help!

YEAR 7 & 8 HISTORY - NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM EVENT

St John the Evangelist Catholic High School proudly hosted a Night at the Museum on Thursday 19 September to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Year 7 and 8 students in their History projects. The students demonstrated exceptional skill and creativity, and they should take great pride in their accomplishments.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all parents, carers, grandparents, friends, siblings and students who attended, as well as to the HSIE team for their facilitation of this event.

YEAR 11 OUTDOOR RECREATION

Our Year 11 Cert II Outdoor Recreation class would like to thank Jarvis at Bike Haven Bomaderry for helping us get our bike fleet together and supporting the program with service kits and plenty of advice (and skilling up Mr Higgins!!).

During the course, students are learning about bike maintenance and riding skills as part of their qualification. We look forward to getting them muddy and ready for maintenance :-)

YOUTH ALPHA PROGRAM & RETREAT

Youth Alpha program is a series of interactive sessions designed to start an open and honest conversation around some of the big questions in life. Topics which students have discussed are, Are we human with AI, How much screen time is too much, Who is Jesus and How is the Holy Spirit. The program concluded with a retreat on Thursday 19th September whereby 30 students who had taken part in the program, spent the day at Milton Parish. A day filled with games, food, fun hands-on activities, Youth Alpha video, listening to our guest speaker Arnie, Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Office of the Bishop, and finishing the day celebrating mass with Fr Michael.
We would like to thank the Milton Parish for their hospitality and sharing the day with us, as well as Arnie for coming down and sharing his moment of encounter with the Holy Spirit.

HOSPITALITY WORK PLACEMENT

St John's Year 11 Hospitality students recently participated in Work Placement. Well done and a huge thank to all of the employers that accepted work placement students, without your support the students could not take part in this invaluable experience!
