NAIDOC CELEBRATIONS
On Monday 1 July, St John's celebrated NAIDOC Week with a wonderful assembly attended by many community members and family. The assembly commenced with a smoking ceremony and included dance and didgeridoo performances from our students.

Our prayer was based on the NAIDOC theme this year of "Voice, Treaty and Truth", and we prayed as a community for true reconciliation between the first Australians and those of us who have descended more recently from European settlement. The Aboriginal Studies class provided the assembly with a timely reminder regarding the true history of the of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal interaction over the past 250 years. The students involved, supported by Gooroon staff and other staff members did a great job in celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
