NEWS FROM CAPA

Term 4 in the CAPA Faculty has been an extremely busy one with showcase assemblies, Junior Creative Arts evenings and of course our EAT Theatre production. I would like to thank all of the CAPA staff for all of the incredible hard work they have put in to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to shine. The set up for music with the instruments, sound system, rehearsals and sound checks requires an enormous effort by our wonderful Music staff Mr Christie, M/s Simis and Mr Malady. The Visual Arts exhibition on the junior Creative Arts evening required almost 400 individual pieces to be moved to the hall and then displayed. A huge effort by our amazing Visual Arts staff M/s Smiriglia, M/s Spruce, M/s Hayes and M/s Shirlaw. Finally thank you to all of the students who not only helped in the set up for the assembly and evening but performed so magnificently as well. Thanks to all of our student creative artists for your dedication, hard work, persistence and courage to express yourself and simply be authentically you. You make all of our CAPA staff immensely proud of what you have achieved this year, thank you.

EAT THEATRE 2024 PRODUCTION 'HOUSE ON FIRE'

This year’s production of House on Fire was an outstanding production. It explored the catastrophically comic world of the Conway sisters, a trio of troubled teenagers struggling with the drama in their lives. House on Fire was a comedic realist drama with moments of farce that highlighted the difficulty that teenagers and young adults face when dealing with all that life throws at you, often unexpectedly. It reminds us of the importance of family and friends in providing support to those that we care about and are important to us and that together we can overcome just about anything.
The lives and stories of each of the characters were played beautifully on stage by the Year 10 Drama students with the Year 11 Drama students devising and performing a chorus of overzealous mall cops trying to keep the audience in check. The entire production was created by the Year 10 Drama class with students designing set, costumes and props as well as playing all of the main cast roles. Year 9 student Emmeline Le did a fantastic job as the lone backstage crew member managing all of the scene changes, props and fog machine by herself. Ex student Georgia Coleman did a great job running the sound for all of our tech rehearsals and performances. A big thank you to both girls.
A big thank you to Mr James Eirth, Ms Simis and Ms Rachael McKay who each supervised students backstage and thanks to all of the staff who helped out on each of the 3 performance evenings, cooking the BBQ, selling canteen food items and managing ticket sales. Thank you to all of the office staff who set up ticketing systems, printed posters and programs and organised floats, eftpos and general enquiries. It took a real community effort to enable the show to be as successful as it was. Huge congratulations to the Year 10 and 11 students whose standard of performance was simply extraordinary and a wonderful way to finish the year.
