DIOCESAN SWIMMING CARINIVAL 2025 - MONDAY 10 MARCH
The Diocesan Swimming Carnival is always an extremely competitive event. For the Johnnies swim team, it is all about having a go and representing their school with pride—and this year’s team certainly did that!
Trae Spencer and Oskar Driscoll swam strongly, taking out age champion titles in the Senior MC and Intermediate MC categories, respectively. In fact, Oscar not only competed in the MC events but also swam in the mainstream events as well. He was incredibly busy, often walking straight from the finish line to the marshalling area for his next race.
There was great team support, with Archie Ward providing the tunes, Hayden Fuller leading the cheer squad, and Denzel Atkinson bringing the cake. For Hayden and Denzel, this was their last Diocesan Swimming Carnival, having competed in every carnival since Year 7. Thank you both for your years of dedication to the St John’s team! Misuki Everingham also offered plenty of encouragement to her teammates, while Lily Sproule assisted with team organization.
Due to absences, many swimmers took on extra events just to ensure St John’s had a competitor in each race. Special thanks to Jesse Crangle—who showed great bravery in his first Diocesan carnival—along with Lily Sproule and Kori Chaffey, who swam courageously against strong opposition. An extra special mention goes to Kori, who, no matter what event she was asked to enter, would always smile and say, “Sure.”
All in all, it was a fantastic day with perfect weather and great team spirit!

ALL SCHOOLS TRIATHLON 2025 - TEAMS
On Thursday 27nd February, the super talented St John's Triathlon Team headed to the NSW All Schools Triathlon Competition at Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith. St John’s was represented by only 2 teams, with injuries significantly impacting many teams' participation.
The Senior Girls team was represented by Abbey Poulton, Mia Stevens and Sarelle Perkins. The boys team included Hayden Fuller, Nathan Kidd and Denzel Atkinson.
It was a “short” almost 3 hour trip with an early 4am departure. Despite this, upon arrival, the team was full of exuberance, there was a buzz of excitement and anticipation for the day's racing. The weather was extremely oppressive, it was very hot and humid but the St Johns teams remained focussed and unfazed by the conditions.
Both teams competed with energy, determination and commitment. There was a wonderful sense of camaraderie and spirit within the group, with students animatedly providing support and encouragement. Both teams represented St John’s with passion and pride and were wonderful ambassadors for the school and community.
In excess of 100 schools competed on the day. Both teams performed extremely well with the Senior Girls coming in 9th and the Senior Boys finishing 10th.
Special mention to Erin Poulton for her wonderful support of both teams on the day. Also a huge thank you to Mrs Gray, the Schools Representative Sport Organiser, whose organisational and administrative efforts made the day possible.
A fitting way to finish is by sharing some students' reflections of the day.
Denzel Atkinson
Competing in the 2025 all schools triathlon was thrilling, as the energy and atmosphere was electric, and it was an exciting experience. I had the run leg, trying to chase down as many competitors as I could in the short 3km I had, with the sun scorching down on us at roughly 30 odd degrees; this was no easy task. Overall the day was intense and challenging, and a great atmosphere from all schools.
Mia Stevens
The triathlon was a fun opportunity to represent my school and compete with my friends. The bike leg was challenging in the heat but was overall rewarding when tapping out the runner. Being on a team made you want to work harder to finish your part of the race. I would 100% recommend it to anyone wanting to try something new and race together with their friends.
Nathan Kidd
Competing in the All Schools Triathlon with Denzel, Hayden and myself was an unforgettable experience, especially as it marked our last school triathlon. The day kicked off with an early 3:30 am start, but the drive up was full of fun, with Maccas pancakes setting the tone for the day. The atmosphere was electric, thanks to a playlist of white girl music and old-time bangers that kept us fired up on the drive up. Mr. Fisher was a real motivator, keeping our spirits high throughout the day. When it was time to hit the bike, I pushed myself hard and got a sub-19-minute ride according to Strava, feeling strong and focused. From the early start to the race itself, the entire experience was amazing and we felt a sense of accomplishment coming in 10th place in the Triple C.

U13 BOY'S TEAM
The St John’s U13 Boys Touch team recently competed in the Diocesan Touch Football competition, where they showcased remarkable skill and teamwork. The team played a total of 9 games, securing 8 victories and finishing in second place overall. Despite a tough start with a loss early in the day, the team showed tremendous improvement as the competition progressed, gaining confidence and refining their game strategies.
All players contributed significantly in their respective positions. In the middle positions, Tommy, Tyson, Taj, and Rory played key roles in controlling the flow of the game. Jenson, Zane, Brody, and Will held the link positions, supporting both attack and defense with excellent communication and quick transitions. On the wings, Torin, Orlando, Oliver, and Koda were dynamic and contributed to both offensive plays and defensive support.
Overall, it was a fantastic performance from the team, highlighting their hard work and growth throughout the competition.
U15 BOY'S TEAM
On Thursday, 6th March, the SJE U15 Boys Touch Football team competed in the 2025 Diocesan Touch Football competition, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork. The team played brilliantly throughout the day, winning all 9 of their matches and being crowned champions. The boys displayed remarkable patience and composure, particularly when facing high-quality opposition, including Holy Spirit and Edmund Rice. These teams boasted a number of representative Touch Football players, but SJE proved too strong, adapting their play and getting the better of teams that relied on a more traditional, pure Touch Football style. The partnership of Taj Goddard and Noah Jamieson was a standout feature of the teams play. The middle pairing controlled the game with precision, both in attack and defence and their teammates followed suit playing with great cohesion and focus. A special mention goes to Jake Swan, Noah Jamieson, Dean Austin, and Taj Goddard (Shadow) for their well-deserved selection in the Diocesan Touch Football team. While some players were unlucky to miss out on selection, their efforts have not gone unnoticed by their teammates and staff. We would also like to extend our thanks to the students who volunteered to referee on the day: Harry Carr, Allira Hepburn, and Ruby Roberts. Their contribution ensured the competition ran smoothly. Congratulations to the SJE U15 Boys Touch Football team on their outstanding performance and well-earned victory.
OPEN BOY'S TEAM
Well done to the Opens boys touch football team who competed at the Diocesan Touch Carnival on the 6th March. The boys lost two games, drew 4 and won 3 games finishing the tournament in fifth place. Well done to Tahj Webb and Noah Hinkley who were selected in the Diocesan Opens Touch Team. All boys conducted themselves with absolute sportsmanship throughout the day and were a credit to the St John’s community.
