NEWS FROM PDHPE
STAGE 5 PDHPE AND ELECTIVES
9 PDHPE
Students have been actively engaged in the “Recipe for Performance” unit, participating in fitness tests and challenges to explore ways to enhance different components of fitness for both sporting success and lifelong health. Some classes have also had the opportunity to assist our Year 11 Sport, Lifestyle, and Recreation students in preparing for their upcoming coaching assessment, a great chance for collaboration and leadership development.
9 SPORT
Year 9 Sport has kicked off with energy and enthusiasm! Students have enjoyed choosing their own groups across classes to participate in a variety of activities, including Tennis at Bomaderry, Beach Sports at Culburra, and House Sport at school. On rainy days, students have had the chance to visit Shoalhaven City Lanes for Ten Pin Bowling. With each group rotating through three weeks at each sport, students are experiencing a great mix of competition, skill development, and fun.

YEAR 9 ELECTIVES
BUSHCRAFT - MOEYAN HILL EXPEDITION
Students from both Bushcraft classes had an unforgettable experience immersing themselves in nature and Indigenous culture during their recent Moeyan’s Hill expedition. Here’s what some students had to say about the experience:
"I really enjoyed learning new things and I loved the smoking ceremony because it was visual and interactive and I could understand the things which were spoken about. I personally really appreciate moments in silence where I can reflect on my thoughts so I really enjoyed this time. I learnt about my peers and built stronger connections with new people." I like seeing all the axe carvings and I like being outside with my friends. The presentation by Uncle Ron and Uncle Adam was very interesting and I enjoyed that they were very passionate and explained well. I enjoyed learning how advanced aboriginal culture is and all of the cool things that they did to live a good life. I enjoyed the quiet reflection because you could listen to all of the birds and other animals that were around and you had time to look around and appreciate what we were surrounded by.”
CHILD STUDIES
In Child Studies, students have been exploring the essential needs of a child and preparing for the responsibilities of newborn care. A highlight has been the shoebox nursery project, where students design and create a miniature nursery as part of their assessment task.
Here’s what some students had to say:
“In child studies we are learning about all the important needs of a child and the preparations for looking after a baby”
“I am enjoying making the shoebox nursery for our assessment task”
“I am enjoying creating the shoebox nursery because I like being creative and it’s been really fun so far”
“Making our shoebox nursery and learning about all the things required for newborn care has been interesting”
