YEAR 8 NEWS

Simis_Abbey.jpg

As we approach the end of Term 1, it’s a great time for students to reflect on how they are tracking—both in terms of their learning and their overall approach to school. Are they achieving their goals? Are they staying organised and making the most of each day?

One area of focus this term has been punctuality. Getting to class on time is essential—every minute counts. Students arriving late to class without a valid reason will be recorded as fractional truancy. If lateness becomes a pattern, parents and carers will be contacted to work together on a plan for improvement.

YEAR 8 REFLECTION DAY

We had a fantastic day at Shoalhaven Heads for our Year 8 Reflection Day, embracing the theme of environmental stewardship. The day began with a beautiful liturgy before students rotated through a series of activities including beach games, a scenic walk, and a fun trivia session (despite students saying the music questions were “for old people”!). A huge thank you to Mr Lopez for organising such a memorable day.

PHONE POLICY REMINDER

A reminder that students are not to have their phones out during school hours. If you need to contact your child during the day, please do so through the front office.

If a student has their phone confiscated three times, they will be placed on an in-school withdrawal. Ongoing breaches of the policy may lead to students being required to hand in their phone at the front office daily, or to leave it at home. Continued defiance of this expectation will result in suspension.

Our goal is to support student learning and encourage healthy, face-to-face social connections—both of which are impacted by unnecessary phone use. Students have been provided with a hard copy of their timetable and should be using their diaries; there is no need to check Compass on their phones throughout the day.

LOOKING AHEAD TO TERM 2

Next term, we will hold a Year 8 Information Evening to discuss the Subject Selection process for Year 9. This is an exciting milestone for students as they begin thinking about their learning pathways. We encourage all families to attend.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership this term. We’re looking forward to an even stronger Term 2!
