NEWS FROM THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
A common question asked by parents is how many schools are using Maths Pathway. At this stage there are 269 schools across Australia with over 2,200 teachers. PERSONALISED LEARNING IN MATHS
Did you know that in the average classroom, there is an eight year spread of ability? When content is delivered according to year level, it is incredibly challenging to target every student’s point of need. Many students find the work too easy and get bored and many others find the work too difficult and sometimes find it easier to give up. Maths Pathway overcomes these challenges supporting the teacher to provide truly differentiated learning to each student. This gives the teacher the opportunity to provide a wider variety of learning experiences through rich tasks whilst still being confident that students are growing in their Maths knowledge. The Maths Pathway Personalised Learning web page provides excellent background information and research data for parents.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOP
In preparation for the upcoming Trial HSC exams many Year 12 students availed themselves of the holiday workshop offered by the Maths faculty. These students are studying Standard, Advanced and Extension1. Students came to school for a morning and made use of the Maths Staff who had offered their time. Many students worked through a past paper whilst others worked on topics that they needed to spend time on. At all times the Maths Staff were ready to provide help as required. A similar workshop will be offered during the next holiday break in preparation for the HSC.
AFTER SCHOOL MATHS TUITION
The Maths Staff are still generously offering their time each Thursday afternoon to assist students with their Mathematics. Students come along from 3pm to 4pm and receive individual help from a Maths teacher as required. More information can be found on the school website - Parent Info - Forms and Letters.
Please note, After School Maths Tutoring will be cancelled on Thursday 8 August as the Maths staff will be attending Professional Development.
