SOCCER DIOCESAN TEAMS
U13 BOYS TEAM
The day began with an early start, as our dedicated team assembled and departed at 6:00 am, ready for a full day of soccer action. Despite the early hour, there was a clear buzz of anticipation and excitement in the air as we arrived at the venue — a sign of the great day ahead.
From the first whistle to the final siren, the players displayed exceptional skill, talent, and determination. Each match was played with high energy and unwavering enthusiasm. The students demonstrated outstanding teamwork and fair play, making it a pleasure to watch them in action. There was a wonderful sense of camaraderie and team spirit throughout the day, which perfectly captured the positive culture of St Johns.
The team proudly represented themselves and the school with passion and pride, proving to be fantastic ambassadors both on and off the field. Their behaviour, effort, and sportsmanship were second to none.
In terms of results, the team achieved a strong performance across five matches:
- 2 wins
- 1 draw
- 2 losses
The highlight of the day was an emphatic 7– 0 win over St Francis, showcasing the team's full potential and attacking flair.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our supportive parents, whose encouragement and presence on the sidelines meant a great deal to the team. Your backing helped lift the players and added to the wonderful atmosphere of the day.
A very special mention goes to our two student officials, Bastian Lymbery and Hendrix Blinksell, who volunteered their time to act as referees and linesmen. Their efforts were instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of the event. Quite simply, the day couldn’t have gone ahead without their commitment — and we are incredibly grateful.
It was truly a privilege and a pleasure to coach such a fantastic group of students. Their attitude, sportsmanship, and team spirit made the day an unforgettable experience.
The squad: Tom Smart, Jack Butler, Lewis Lumsdon, Mattaus Juric, Patrick Durami, Flynn Kelly, Morton Ellerington, Sylas Murphy, Darcy Broadhurst, Dean Osgood, Torin Daly, Harvey Purnell, Rusty Sutton, Eddie Worsnip, Archie Malouf, Drodie Hewitt and Huxley Dudgeon.
INTERMEDIATE BOYS TEAM
On the 27th March, the Intermediate boy's Soccer team travelled up to Mount Carmel College for the day. With some solid preparation and training completed, the boys were raring to go. The boys played outstanding Football and came away from the Pool group with wins over St Joseph's, St Francis and Corpus Christie. Unfortunately, there were a few tired legs and injuries which led to a close loss to Edmund Rice in the semi-final. The boys won the 3rd v 4th playoff qualifying them for the Diocesan playoffs later in the year. The boys showed great spirit throughout the day and should be proud of their efforts.
U13 GIRLS TEAM
On Thursday 27th March the under 13's Girls football team competed amongst other teams from the Diocese in their first showing as a team. Despite interrupted preparation the girls were keen to get stuck in and represent the school.
Across our five games we were unfortunate to not secure a win but the girls definitely showed plenty of determination and by the end of the day players such as Matilda Ward and Zali Murray had the ball on a string and were scoring on will.
We also saw tremendous sportsmanship and leadership from Isla Bailie and Tehya Gruosso who helped guide the team around the field and played across multiple positions on the field.
As a community we should commend the effort of the girls who signed up and represented the school and I look forward to future endeavours the team are capable of showing.
7 - 9 JUNIOR GIRLS TEAM
The 7-9 girls team had a very successful day winning four of their 5 pool games qualifying for the semi finals. Dominating play in the semi final the girls were unlucky to go down 1-0. The girls won the 3rd v 4th playoff qualifying them for the Diocesan playoffs later in the year.
