FOUNDATION DAY

The St John’s community celebrated their 35th Foundation Day on Friday 6 June 2025. The day began with the school coming together to celebrate their faith through a special Foundation Day Liturgy. Following was a day of fun where students and staff engaged in a range of activities including a footy kicking competition, a dunking machine, guessing competitions, retro games and so much more. Students were also able to enjoy the many food items available on the day, leaving them full of sugar and with lots of energy. Finally, our wonderfully talented students performed in the Foundation Day Showcase, entertaining the rest of the community with their musical items. Some of our teachers performed a special ‘masked singer’ act, entertaining the crowd with their talents. It was fantastic to see all the smiling faces of our students enjoying themselves with their peers and teachers on this very special day.

SPORTS SHOES

We are still working hard to ensure that the sports shoes all students are wearing to school are appropriate and safe for the range of sporting activities that they will engage in at school. It is clear that the changing trends and styles of sports shoes available have influenced some sport shoe choices that are of concern. Whilst we have already communicated our expectations for sport shoes in various newsletters, in the school diary and via Compass, we would like to add further clarification to our expectations and communicate consequences that will take place.

Please note that the pictures of the inappropriate shoes in the school’s guidelines and communications may not include all options available in stores, as this is not feasibly possible. Please focus on the examples of the sports shoes that students MUST wear to school.

To ensure all students can safely engage in the range of sporting activities required at school with the appropriate footwear, we expect the following:

  • The shoes should NOT be made of canvas,
  • The shoes should NOT have a flat or platform sole,
  • The shoes most likely will be classified as “gym” or “training” by the manufacturer (jogger style sports shoes rather than dress/walk/skate shoes).

Could you please ensure that your child has the correct footwear by the beginning of Term 3, 2025. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child has the correct footwear. Those students who continue to wear sports shoes that do not fit our expectations will be off the playground each day until the matter is resolved. Please feel free to reach out if you need any further clarification.
