YEAR 10 BUSINESS REVIEW
During the week, students met with their teams and were given a range of activities to complete to help develop employability skills such as communication, collaboration, taking initiative and problem solving skills. This resulted in the careful planning and collaborating with peers to create a business concept based on running a cafe.
Through a visit to the University of Wollongong Career Expo, students were informed about business and employability skills, learning from guest speakers, including Kangaroo Valley Eggs and Jaffa Designworx.
Students put their learning into action, working in groups to create a company name, branding, marketing, shopfront display, pricing structure, signature dish, video resumes, job descriptions, 30 second commercials, trade displays, full business reports and oral presentations.
The concepts and creativity presented by students were outstanding and exceptionally clever! Whilst students were drawn to the ice-cream giveaways at 'Papa Muirs Ice Cream', the concept presented by 'Young Mugs' to pose as rappers selling snoopdogs (hot dogs), Ice-T (Iced Tea), J-coke, A$AP Rocky Road, Eninem Cookies (M & M cookies) and Chris Brownies was well executed.
It was wonderful to see such variety of exhibitions, with students incorporating various cultures and lifestyles from French cuisine in the 'Bonne Journee Cafe' to classic American themed 'Joe's Diner', 'Herbal Hyppies', surf culture in 'The Shack', and a colour themed cafe, 'The Orange Tie'.
One of everyone's best loved cooks was not forgotten, with 'Nan's Kitchen' and 'Tea with Nanna' each providing a lovely selection of tea and baked goods, alongside 'Shake n Bake' and 'Rise n Grnd'.

Chocolate, Milk and sweets were plentiful with 'Milk me up!', 'Milk 'n' Co', 'Choc-a-lot' and 'Jaucks Goodness' each presenting an appetising display.

Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the event, nominating their favourite business in a secret voting ballot. Overall the winners of the week were;
Following the success of the event, there is little doubt, St John's will be producing some of the future's finest entrepreneurs!
