YEAR 8 NEWS

Simis_Abbey.jpg

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the school year! As we wrap up Term 2, it’s been encouraging to see the significant learning growth and personal development many of our Year 8 students have made throughout the semester. Semester 1 reports are now available to view via Compass and provide a valuable snapshot of student progress across a range of subject areas.

For those students who may feel disappointed with aspects of their results, we encourage them to reflect honestly on their efforts and outcomes, and begin considering some clear and realistic goals for the second half of the year. To support this, we will be reviewing and updating learning goals during a pastoral period early in Term 3.

Thank you to all families who attended the Year 9 2026 Subject Selection and Pastoral Evening recently. It was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with this important next step in your child’s learning journey. Subject preferences were due yesterday, and students now need to print and submit their signed subject selection forms to their PALS teacher by the beginning of next term if they haven’t already done so.

Please note that the Year 9 elective classes are not created by myself or the PALS teachers. These are organised through the school preference-based system. The formation of elective classes, led by Ms Nicole Akai, our Leader of Learning, will take some time, and the school will notify families once these are finalised and available to view later in the year.

A quick reminder regarding sport uniform expectations: while the majority of Year 8 students are wearing the correct sport shoes, there are a few students whose footwear has not met uniform requirements. PALS teachers have spoken with these students and, in most cases, worked out a plan to correct this if not already resolved. Please ensure your child is wearing appropriate joggers each sport day—these must be standard running shoes with proper arch support. Fashion shoes such as Sambas, Reeboks, high tops, or platform-style sneakers are not permitted as they do not meet the school’s requirements for support and safety.

Wishing all of our Year 8 families a restful and safe holiday break. I look forward to another term of growth, learning, and connection in Term 3.
