RECENT EVENTS
BlueScope Industry Tour - Port Kembla

On August 6, Year 9, 10, and 11 students had the opportunity to tour the BlueScope site at Port Kembla—a truly eye-opening experience. From the very start, students learnt about the importance of Occupational Health and Safety, listening to strict site guidelines and putting on the required PPE gear to ensure they could explore the site safely.
The sheer size of the plant - comparable to Melbourne’s CBD, made a lasting impression, as students came to understand the vital role BlueScope plays in local employment. The company employs over 3,000 people directly, with a further 8,000 positions outsourced, making it a major contributor to our community.
Presentations gave students valuable insight into the wide range of potential career pathways, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, administration, and logistics. BlueScope’s strong partnership with the University of Wollongong has also opened doors for students to secure cadetships, allowing individuals to build long-term careers within the company.
Students interested in pursuing a career with BlueScope are encouraged to see Ms Arenas for further guidance and support.
UOW Teaching, SLSO and Early Childhood Education Workshop

The UOW Teaching, SLSO, and Early Childhood Education Workshop, held on August 13, was once again very well attended. Year 10 and 11 students gained valuable insight into the job market and the strong projected growth in these fields. These roles are currently in high demand due to workforce shortages and are expected to continue growing into the future.
Students were provided with detailed pathway information for each career area, along with an overview of the many government incentives available; including grants and guaranteed permanency in teaching positions. Traineeship and TAFE pathway options were also explored, with Early Childhood Education generating significant interest among participants.
It was fantastic to see students engaging so actively in the hands-on activities, from lesson planning and organising ball games for young children, to using art as a form of self-expression. The mini canvas artworks were a particular highlight!
Students interested in pursuing a school-based traineeship in Early Childhood Education are encouraged to speak with Mr Gibson or Ms Arenas for further guidance.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The Shoalhaven Education Fund was established to provide much needed financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their post- high school education, training and vocation aspirations. We recognise that the cost of rural students pursuing their post- high school goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts and that sometimes these costs can be prohibitive.
SEF fundraises throughout the year and accepts donations from local residents and businesses in order to provide financial grants to students who need an extra helping hand. The funds come directly from your local community – none of it is government funded – celebrating the aspirations of local youth and working to help them achieve these aspirations.
SIT - Teaching Scholarships - Open Week 3
A reminder that the Year 12 SIT scholarship applications are open from week 3 to week 9 this term (4/8/25 to 19/9/25). Applications will not be accepted after COB on Friday 19th September 2025. We would encourage students to submit their applications before their trial exam period begins.
During term 4, students will be informed (via email), the process to move forward with their application.
ANU Tuckwell Scholarship
One of the most prestigious scholarships in Australia. The program has a focus on giving back to Australia and is the only one of its kind that nurtures Scholars to fulfil their broader community ambitions over and above the pursuit of an undergraduate degree.
