LANGUAGE NEWS

Year 8 Indonesian students have been diving into some cool topics this term! We’ve been learning how to talk about houses and ways to get around, picking up key words and phrases to describe homes, rooms, and transport in Indonesia. In our Indo Convo’s, students have been practising real-life conversations, building confidence in speaking and listening. The class is gearing up for an exciting role-play assessment, where students will put all their language skills into action. It’s a fun way to see how much they’ve learned and to practise using Indonesian in everyday situations!

This term, Year 9 Indonesian students have been getting stuck into some fascinating topics! We’ve explored food and shopping, learning how to order, buy, and describe things confidently in Indonesian. Lately, we’ve taken a closer look at Indonesian lifestyle, covering everything from Mentawai culture to the differences between city and village life, and even popular sports and hobbies, which the students have created their own versions of. Along the way, the kids have been making role plays, vlogs and even news stories about the vocabulary and topics they have been learning. Their curiosity and participation in class has made discussions lively and engaging, showing how much they are interested in Indonesian language and culture.

Year 10 Indonesian students have been exploring some fascinating topics this term. They started by researching ethnic groups across Indonesia and learning about health and wellbeing, building vocabulary to discuss lifestyles and habits. Most recently, the class has focused on Indonesian religions, examining the country’s diverse beliefs and how they influence daily life. Through these topics, students are strengthening their reading, writing, and speaking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s culture and society.

Our year 12 students have finished their trials and are now in the fast lane towards their HSC exam! Both Pak and Bu are incredibly proud of how far our Indonesian learners have come and are eager to see where their skills take them in the future.
