PUBLIC SPEAKING AT ST JOHN'S 2019
On Tuesday 20 August, 6 students from St John’s travelled to Holy Spirit College Bellambi for the 2019 South Coast Public Speaking competition. Each student spoke with passion and commitment to their topics. This year there has been a marked improvement in our performance with six students representing years 8, 9, 10 and 11. In addition to this Kayleigh Sleath was placed first in her group. Kayleigh spoke about “her legacy” and to do this she told an intriguing story about an experience she had with a lockdown at a former school
Prior to the competition the students involved had prepared and rehearsed their speeches in a very thorough manner. I would like to commend each student on their dedication and passion for their topic and for the way they went about preparing to speak.

The students involved were;
Year 8. Arabici Talty. His topic was “we want it now.”
Year 9. Bandria McLeod with “we want it now.” Kirra Dale with “make it count.”
Year 10. JD Talty. His topic was “you do meet some interesting people.”
Year 11. Gabrielle Levick spoke philosophically about the interesting people she has met while working and Kayliegh Sleath.
These students have talents that they share with others and in doing so bring joy to those who are fortunate enough to listen. Next year we are hoping for more students to be willing to share their talents and participate in Public Speaking at St John’s.
A special thanks to the families of the contestants who travelled on the night and gave such solid support.
