YEAR 10 NEWS

AWARDS CEREMONY

Well done to Year 10 who maintained an excellent sense of occasion throughout the awards ceremony on Wednesday 4 December.  This is a first for a Year 10 cohort to receive their reports and awards recognising the range of achievements across the year, which will also be the case at the end of Years 11 and 12.  Students received awards across a range of areas, specifically:  individual faculty - subject based awards, Principal’s Report Awards and Year Coordinator’s Awards for contribution to the school community, exemplary Scholastic Attendance: Awarded to those students who have demonstrated commitment to their learning through exemplary attendance and Leadership Initiative awards,

The following students received awards recognising those who have contributed to the school and wider community in an exceptional way. The nominations for these awards were supported by the evidence collected from the student’s senior passports, in which they have documented their contributions.

OP SHOP BALL

Well done to all involved in the Op Shop Ball for Year 10 2019, there was a range of amazing outfits that really entertained and surprised on the day.

A gold coin donation offered by students at the door has been donated to the St Vincent’s Bushfire Appeal. There were a range of awards given out on the day!

ANNUAL YEAR 10 PEACE DAY

On Friday 29 November Year 10 were involved in our annual Peace Day. Guest speakers from ISRA (Islamic Science and Research Academy of Australia) spoke with the students and ran activities promoting peace, understanding, cultural awareness and interfaith dialogue. Students from Amity College were warmly greeted by Year 10 and new friendships were made.

An important aspect of the day in building relationships that are peaceful and just was in the sharing of a traditional meal. The students, staff and guests enjoyed a communal BBQ with chicken skewers, tabouli, hummus and flatbread.  Peace Day is a great opportunity for the students to embrace and act on our school motto Pax Christi, the Peace of Christ.

Just a reminder that Year 10 finish their 2019 schooling after Work Experience on Friday 13 December.

Have a safe and happy holiday and we wish you a very happy Christmas and new year.

Mr. Simon Vaughan

Year 10 Coordinator
