PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
In the busyness of our lives it is important to stop at times and contemplate our personal and spiritual journey. We are now moving into the liturgical season of Lent which is a time of contemplation and renewal. Lent is a time of spiritual growth. During Lent we Pray, Fast and Give alms. Giving up something for Lent fosters self-discipline and assists us to tune into our needs and wants and to come to understand the difference. It turns our minds to our God-given blessings and our responsibility to be mindful and active to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
Whilst it’s great to give something up for Lent we should also think about the possibility of doing something positive to bolster your spiritual life and make the world a better place. Look for ways that you can strengthen your spiritual life or perform special acts of mercy and kindness at home, at work or in your community.
At St John’s there are many social justice initiatives that offer students the opportunity to be informed and active citizens. It is exciting to see the many activities that they organise and how deeply informed they are in their ability to link the action with the goal to build a deeper understanding of those less fortunate. All students are welcome and encouraged to join any of these groups and contribute to the activities they plan.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
It has been wonderful to see so many parents visiting the school over the last 2 weeks, with outstanding engagement at the Year 10 and 11 information evening and the Year 12 parent teacher interviews.
There has also been a great response for support with the swimming carnival and it's fabulous to see new faces at the canteen.
We wish to thank our Parent and Friends Committee for their continued guidance and input and to our P & F Executives Corey Carter, John Barack, Jacinta Davies, Monica Oke and Janet Gill who have led the Parents and Friends Association throughout 2019. We encourage all parents/carers to attend our P & F meetings including our P & F AGM on Monday 2 March, 2020.
This Saturday we have our school Working Bee and I am looking forward to meeting more parents, carers and friends. This engagement enables you to connect with our community and we do love getting to know our families and have you with us at the school. If you would like to be placed on the parent/carer volunteer list please contact our school office.
OPEN NIGHT
The 0pen Night will be held in Week 6 this year. This is always a wonderful night in which the school showcases the opportunities available to those who are considering enrolment in future. If you know anyone who may be interested in enrolment please encourage them to join us for this evening.
