NATIONAL APOLOGY ASSEMBLY
During assembly on Thursday 20 February, we commemorated the 12th Anniversary of the Australian Parliament’s Apology to the Stolen Generations. Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, delivered the National Apology on 13 February in 2008. This day marks great significance to the history of our nation. It was a moment of solidarity and empathy to reflect upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims of forced child removal and to the members of the Stolen Generations.
This apology was a step on the path to reconciliation. It marks a commitment to right the wrongs of the past and is about building a bridge of respect between all people.
An extract from the prayer reads;
Love one another and spread the message of God’s peace and love... Share the spiritual richness of our ancestors with all others, rejuvenate young Aboriginal ambassadors and leaders so that we, as a community, can celebrate the gift of change.
As a community, St John’s is committed to being a part of that change, bringing hope and justice to all Australians.
