PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
All the students and staff at St John’s attended the Ash Wednesday Liturgy last week to acknowledge the start of Lent. Lent is a time of spiritual growth. Giving up something for Lent fosters self-discipline and tempers our desires. It turns our minds to our God-given blessings and our responsibility to be mindful and active to help those less fortunate. It promotes spiritual growth and reflection.
If you're giving up something for Lent, that's great. But think also about the possibility of doing something positive to bolster your spiritual life and make the world a better place. Look for ways that you can increase your knowledge of your faith, strengthen your spiritual life or perform special acts of mercy and kindness at home, at work, in your parish or in your community. Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australians together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
At St John’s there are many social justice initiatives that offer students the opportunity to be informed and active citizens. It is exciting to see the many activities that they organise and how deeply informed they are in their ability to link the action with the goal to build a deeper understanding of those less fortunate. All students are welcome and encouraged to join any of these groups and contribute to the activities that they plan.
Publishing of Student Photo's
We regularly acknowledge students and events by publishing their photos in the school newsletter, website and other similar publications including Facebook. If you have concerns about your child appearing in any of these publications please contact the school office in writing (letter or email).
