YEAR 12 NEWS
There is no question that this is a hard part of a young person’s life - it is important to try not to make it any harder by discouraging them from worrying about what might happen as this can lead to procrastination and over-thinking. What is important for students is to be in the present and focus on what is on the page in front of them (when completing tasks/exams) and what is happening now in their learning.
Below are some strategies which parents can use to support their child over the next few months;
- Take a whole family approach to supporting your child
- Maintain routine – SO important!! (helps your child maintain their study plan)
- Provide healthy, nutritious meals and encourage exercise
- Sleep is vital – try to ensure technology is out of the room and the house is quiet.
- Try to keep a calm household and allow your child to opt out of chores during exam time
- Provide physical conditions to aid studying – good lighting, cool/warm temperatures, a desk and a comfortable chair.
- Stay positive, provide encouragement (try not to nag!) Let them know you are there when they need you
- Encourage them to believe in themselves.
- Ultimately it is your son or daughter’s HSC – and they have to be responsible for the final outcome
