YEAR 10 NEWS
Year 10 have been very busy this term and there is no sign of them slowing down.
Great things are continuing to happen for this year group and the following is just a few of the highlights.

Congratulations to Bryn on achieving 2 Gold Medals at the Australian All Schools Sailing Championships in April this year held at Belmont. Bryn has a number of future sailing events and we wish him well in these competitions and look forward to hearing more good news for Bryn.
KEIRA BUCKPITT

JONATHON ROGERS NURSING HOME
We are proud of Bethany and Laney who attended Jonathon Rogers Nursing Home earlier in the term to participate in their ANZAC Day ceremony.
YOUTH ADVISORY
Kiah Shine, Jessica Munro, Phoebe Szymoniczek and Mylea Knight represented St John’s at the Shoalhaven City Council Youth Advisory Committee meeting where they got to discuss and have input into issues that concern youth in the region. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students giving them a taste of the local political scene and how young people can be involved.

HISTORY DEBATING
Year 10 students have been engaged in History Debating. A number of girls in History Elective have been researching 3 topics for a Debating Day on Friday 28 May at All Saints College Liverpool. This included Bethany, Catherine, Laney and Caitlin.
Unfortunately, SJE was unable to attend the Year 11 pool day at Tara Anglican College as it was the same day as our Foundation Day. As year 11 has 4 debates to complete via zoom- a year 10 boys team was enlisted at very short notice to assist. With only a few days' notice and little recent debating experience, Finn (1st speaker) Ben (2nd speaker) and Arabici (3rd speaker) gave St Charbel excellent competition on the topic- That Pearl Harbour sealed Japan's fate. Despite excellent refutation, they were narrowly defeated. The boys team will debate again on Friday on the topic That JFK is the modern day King Arthur.
Good luck to both Year 10 teams!
MARINE STUDIES
The three Marine Studies classes went out on their snorkeling excursion a few weeks ago to Hyams Beach. I would like to congratulate all the students for the way they engaged in the session and the positive way they approached the excursion. Mr Garner was full of praise for the whole group on how well they represented the St John’s community.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY
There are definitely some amazing cooks coming through the ranks. The Food Technology assessments were amazing and looked so delicious.
All the students should be really proud of their achievements and we can’t wait to see more tantalising creations from the kitchen.

FOUNDATION DAY
The St John’s 30th Anniversary celebrations at Friday’s Foundation Day saw Year 10 engage in such a positive way. The reverence shown throughout the Mass highlighted the respect the students have for our Catholic traditions and the connection to our faith.
The involvement in the fair was full of enthusiasm with some wonderful stalls ranging from games to food to guessing competitions.
HAIR AND BEAUTY WORKSHOP
A group of Year 10 girls attended a live zoom Hair and Beauty workshop this term learning how to present for a job interview.

WHITE CARD COURSE
Several Year 10 students attended the Construction Industry Safety Induction Course (White Card), held at our school this week.
This course is mandatory for anyone undertaking work experience or employment in the construction industry.
We plan to provide another White Card course later in the year.
